# How to choose an English school abroad: a research checklist

> Choose an English school by written facts, not by a ranking widget. Confirm the accreditor, maximum class size in peak season, the exact visa letter the school issues, and what happens to fees if the visa is refused. Price tuition, housing, and living in one currency. Cape Town often wins that spreadsheet against London, Dublin, and Sydney. The school still has to answer the visa and housing questions in writing.

## Start with accreditation, not Instagram

Ask which body inspects the school: English UK or Accreditation UK in Britain, EAQUALS, IALC, English South Africa, NEAS in Australia, NZQA Category 1 in New Zealand, ILEP in Ireland. A logo on a website is not a certificate. Match the accreditor to the visa you need. GOV.UK Short-term study visa requires an accredited institution from a named list.

## Class size and nationality mix in writing

Ask for the maximum class size in July and January, not the brochure average. Ask what share of classmates will share your first language. A cheap school packed with one nationality slows speaking practice. ## The visa letter is part of the product
