*Dinheiro · آخر تحديث 2026-09-10*

## Where the money goes

Accommodation is the biggest variable. A homestay with breakfast and dinner is usually the cheapest all-in option and removes the cost and risk of daily food shopping. A shared apartment looks cheaper on paper but adds groceries, utilities, deposits and furniture.

Transport depends entirely on the suburb. Students in Sea Point or Green Point walk to class; students in Constantia will spend more on shuttles and e-hailing.

## Halal food and groceries

Cape Town is unusually easy for halal requirements: major supermarket chains carry certified halal ranges, and there are halal butchers and restaurants across the city. This is a genuine practical advantage over most European study destinations and it does not carry a price premium.

### How much spending money per month?

USD 150-250 covers a normal social life for a student; USD 350+ if they travel most weekends.

### How do exchange rates affect the budget?

The rand has historically made South Africa competitive for students arriving with dollars, euros or similarly strong currencies. Rates move, so compare complete quotes in one currency before booking.
