## The direct-flight advantage

Nine hours non-stop from Dubai changes the calculation for parents. ## A note for expatriate residents

If you hold a UAE residence visa on an Indian, Pakistani, Egyptian, Jordanian or Filipino passport, your South African visa requirements follow your passport, not your residence — but you can usually apply from the UAE if your residence permit has at least six months left. Confirm this with VFS before booking flights, as it is the single most common reason Gulf-based families lose a deposit.
